The Bombay Natural History Society, Mumbai invites application for engaging Junior Research Fellows for the “Long Term Ecological Monitoring of Eastern Seascape of Mumbai and Formulating a Conservation Blueprint for the Sewri–Nhava Seascape”.

The Bombay Natural History Society, founded on 15 September 1883, is one of the largest non-governmental organizations in India engaged in conservation and biodiversity research. It supports many research efforts through grants and publishes the Journal of the Bombay Natural History Society. Many prominent naturalists, including the ornithologists Sálim Ali and S. Dillon Ripley, have been associated with it. The society is commonly known by its initials, BNHS.

1. Junior Research Fellow (Ornithology) (03)
Job Role
Field data collection on bird communities, bird ringing, monitoring of bird behaviors.
Report writing.
Qualifications
Post Graduate Degree in Wildlife Science/ Zoology/ Marine Biology/ Life Sciences/ Biodiversity and Conservation/ Environmental Science from a recognized university.
Sound knowledge of wader identification and various bird count methods.
Experience/ interest in intensive fieldwork for bird surveys, bird ringing, and bird behavior studies.
Basic knowledge of statistics.
Good writing and communication skills.
Selected candidates will be entitled to register for Ph. D. from Mumbai University after qualifying PET (Zoology) under this project.

Salary
Rs. 20,000 CTS, Health and accident insurance policy, and basic accommodation facility on a sharing basis.

2. JRF (Marine Benthic Studies) (02)
Qualifications
Post Graduate Degree in Wildlife Science/Zoology/ Marine Biology/ Life Sciences/ Biodiversity and Conservation/ Environmental Science from a recognized university.
Sound knowledge of marine benthic communities, identification, and analysis.
Experience/ interest in intensive benthos sample collection and analysis.
Water quality analysis.
Basic knowledge of statistics.
Good writing and communication skills
Selected candidates will be entitled to register for Ph. D. from Mumbai University after qualifying PET (Zoology) under this project.

Job Role
Management for sample collections/ analysis for benthos/ plankton/ water parameters/ Sample collection and data analysis for water/ sediment quality (pollutants and heavy metals).
Report writing.
